The earliest days of the Web were an exciting time. Nothing
had been done yet, so everything was possible. We knew
we were at the start of something huge, even if we did have
to begin pitches by explaining the Internet to people.
In 1996, this banner had an incredible 27% clickthrough rate,
thousands of times what would be considered successful today. Admittedly, this was at a time when people clicked on banners just to see what would happen, but this still must rank as one of the most successful pieces of digital advertising ever.
